FLORISTRY students from a renowned college are decorating one of Cheshire’s finest country homes for Christmas.

Arley Hall, near Knutsford, has invited 25 students from Reaseheath College to help design and decorate the Gallery in time for thousands of visitors in December.

Fiona Davies, course manager in floristry said the trainee florists were enjoying recreating a traditional Christmas at such a venue.

“The students are working on a grand scale and the aim is to create real impact,” she said.

“They are working in teams and it is challenging their creativity.”

Every year Arley Hall opens its doors at Christmas so the public can see what it looks like dressed for the festive season.

Florists decorate rooms including the grand staircase, dining hall and library using traditional techniques and materials – some of which are taken from Arley’s gardens.

Fiona said: “One of the challenges the students face is working with and around the furniture, much of which is irreplaceable. They also have to choose materials that will last for the whole event.”

“It’s an excellent opportunity for them to become involved in commercial practice and gives them a great opportunity to work in such a beautiful and grand setting.”

Arley’s Christmas Floral Extravaganza is open during the day from Saturday, December 6, to Thursday, December 11. Admission is £7.50 for adults and £2.50 for children.

On December 8 and December 10 visitors can see the hall by candlelight between 6pm and 9pm for the carol evenings priced £9
