CREWE Town Council has said it fully supports Bentley's plans for Crewe despite having concerns over the potential loss of public open space.

In December 2014, Cheshire East Council held a consultation on the disposal of open green space to Bentley for the storage of vehicles.

A spokesperson for the town council said: "We restated our support for the Bentley project, but sought assurances about access to any remaining green space, and that consideration had been given to the provision of a replacement in the locality.

"Assurance was also sought about traffic congestion on Minshull New Road, and that the proceeds of the sale would be re-invested in Crewe.

"For procedural reasons only, the town council had to register a holding objection to the sale to make sure that these matters were considered.

"The land to be sold is at the rear of houses on Minshull New Road, in an area where there is already a shortage of greenspace.

"The Town Council is fully behind the Bentley development, but would like to be re-assured that consideration has been given to replacing the lost public open space.

"It is unfortunate that Cheshire East Council has not provided any such assurances, other than to say that they will be matters for consideration when Bentley apply for planning permission."
