RESIDENTS came out in force in Crewe for a charity fundraiser to help stroke survivors.

More than 100 took part in the Stroke Association’s Step out for Stroke event in Queens Park, raising more than £1,000 in vital funds for the Stroke Association.

The fundraising walk helped to celebrate the achievements of stroke survivors as they walked alongside their friends and family.

The event was supported by the mayor of Crewe, Cllr Dennis Straine-Francis, who officially opened the walk by cutting the ceremonial ribbon.

Hilary Belshaw, Information, Advice and Support Coordinator from the Stroke Association, said: “Step out for Stroke is a fun walk that everyone can be part of, no matter what your age or fitness level. Ultimately, Step out for Stroke celebrates the brave steps in a stroke survivor’s recovery.

“We’re very grateful to everyone who came along to show their support on Sunday, including the Mayor of Crewe for officially opening the walk.

“We were just about to kick start the day when the rain started to pour, however it didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits.

“People were full of smiles and a great day was had by all. The money raised will help even more stroke survivors take their first steps on the road to recovery.”
