TWO kind-hearted friends from Crewe are set to reach dizzying heights when they skydive to help fund a chemotherapy infusion pump for Leighton Hospital.

Jodie Hopkins and Lauren Bradshaw are set to skydive on Friday, August 28, at The Black Knights Parachute Centre in Lancashire.

Jodie and Lauren have chosen to take on this challenge to support a chemotherapy infusion pump for Leighton Hospital’s Macmillan Cancer Unit.

Jodie’s mum, Dawn Hopkins, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2014 and then ovarian cancer earlier this year.

Dawn received her care and treatment at the Macmillan Cancer Centre at Leighton Hospital.

Jodie said: “As I watched my mum suffer without complaining I was struck by how indiscriminate the illness is and how helpless we remain in so many cases.

“We want to skydive to honour my Mum’s extraordinary bravery in the face of the cruelest of illnesses but also to help those facing cancer to have the most dignified treatment.”

The chemotherapy infusion pump the pair hope to help fund will allow patients undergoing cancer treatment to be given two infusions at a time, thereby increasing efficiency and time accuracy and reducing treatment time.

Laura Riddle, charity manager, said: “We are immensely grateful to Jodie and Lauren for choosing to support the Macmillan Cancer Centre to help fund the purchase of an infusion pump.

“Jodie and Lauren have shown tremendous courage to choose to skydive to raise money. This will be of huge benefit to our patients in helping to reduce their treatment time.”
