THE chairman of Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has been appointed as a Deputy Lieutenant of Cheshire.

Dennis Dunn was formally appointed on January 18 by David Briggs, the county’s Lord-Lieutenant.

Deputy Lieutenants are appointed by the Lord-Lieutenant (HM The Queen’s Representative in the County) to support him with a range of duties.

Their main role is to deputise Lord-Lieutenant when they are not available, and tend to be people who have served the local community or who have a history of public service.

Speaking on his appointment, Mr Dunn said: “I am honoured to have been appointed a Deputy Lieutenant of Cheshire.

“My commission will be put to good use in supporting the diverse Cheshire communities and organisations.”

Mr Dunn, who was born in Nelson Street, Atherton, was a governor at the Trust before being made a non-executive director in May 2009.

He was appointed as the Trust’s chairman in 2014 following the retirement of John Moran.

Mr Dunn was the director of Clobber, a Bolton-based men’s fashion boutique which had shops across the North West, before leaving to study at Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU).

After graduating he became a senior lecturer in business and IT at MMU, before being promoted to principal lecturer and then to head of department.

He was eventually appointed as the pro vice chancellor (international) of MMU and dean of MMU Cheshire.

In 2010 he was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for his services to Higher Education.

As well as his work for the Trust, Mr Dunn is currently Cheshire president of the British Red Cross and visiting professor at Huizhou University, China.
