LEGENDARY antiques expert David Dickinson appeared at a Nantwich auction house.

The television presenter appeared at Peter Wilson – Fine Art Auctioneers on Thursday, January 21, as part of filming for Dickinson’s Real Deal.

The show sees members of the public bringing antiques to sell to a dealer or take to the auction.

Chris Large, from Peter Wilson – Fine Art Auctioneers, said: “David Dickinson is a regular visitor at our salerooms as they frequently film the contestants’ items being sold as part of Dickinson’s Real Deal.

“The saleroom is always busy with people watching the filming process and enjoying the auction.

“I think they visit many auctioneers for variety as they don’t always want the shows to be at the same place but they definitely like visiting our saleroom.

The larger-than-life TV personality became a household name in the antiques world, largely thanks to his extravagant persona on the daytime BBC One show Bargain Hunt.

The show gained a keen following among daytime viewers including students and a primetime evening version was also broadcast for a few years following the success of the daytime show.

The primetime shows were cancelled in 2005, and Dickinson subsequently left the BBC. Since 2006 has hosted the ITV daytime show Dickinson's Real Deal.

Catchphrases such as ‘real bobby-dazzler’ and ‘cheap as chips’ helped make Dickinson something of a minor celebrity in the UK.

He has appeared on popular prime-time shows including Strictly Come Dancing and I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!

After becoming a regular at Peter Wilson – Fine Art Auctioneers, Mr Large confirmed that in reality Dickinson is very much like his TV persona.

He said: “From what I have seen he is like he appears on the screen. He is very knowledgeable as he has been in the business for quite some time.”
