THE swimming pool at Crewe’s £15 million lifestyle centre will be closed for a ‘number of days’ following a ‘leak of a harmless substance’, Cheshire East Council have confirmed.
Cheshire East Council (CEC) said it was working to fix a ‘temporary issue’ with the main swimming pool at state-of-the-art building, less than four weeks after it officially opened.
The council said the problem has been caused by a leak of a harmless substance from the hydraulic mechanism, which operates the special lift used to assist swimmers with disabilities to access the pool.
A CEC spokesman said: “Any building of this nature is bound to experience some teething problems and we apologise for the inconvenience this may have caused to swimmers, swimming clubs and schools.
“We hope to have the fault remedied as soon as possible but it will take a number of days before the pool is back in use.”
The council and Everybody Sport and Recreation, the Trust responsible for operating the leisure side of the new centre, will issue regular updates via social media and information bulletins.
The small pool is operating to its normal timetable and is not affected.
