MARKS and Spencer is closing its Crewe town centre store and relocating to the Grand Junction Retail Park, the company has announced.

The store, in Market Street, will close and the Simply Food store at Grand Junction Retail Park will be extended, taking the Halfords unit next door, to include Clothing and Home.

The store’s Clothing and Home department will increase in size and there will also be a café.

The move will happen in 2017, though an exact date will be confirmed at a later date. An M&S Spokesman said all colleagues will be offered a role at Grand Junction.

The Spokesman said: “We’re always thinking about how we can deliver great service for our customers.

“In Crewe this means relocating our Clothing and Home department by extending our Grand Junction store.

“The new, bigger store will offer the very best of M&S food and include a cafe.

“All colleagues from our High Street store will transfer to Grand Junction and we know they’ll continue to bring their passion, experience and dedication to serving local customers.”

The move comes after Steve Rowe, chief executive of Marks and Spencer, told shareholders at Wembley Stadium this week that there will be ‘tough decisions’ on the way.

The retail giant plans to cut premium pay for Sundays, bank holidays and anti-social hours for around 7000 people.
