THREE public consultations have been launched concerning Phase 2a of HS2, which is set to run between the West Midlands and Crewe.

The eight-week long consultations cover the environmental effects of the line, route refinements from November and the needs of communities along the line.

Residents along the 37-mile stretch will receive letters setting out more information, while seven public events will also take place to offer information and a chance to respond.

Two of the seven events will take place in Crewe, in the Madeley Centre from 10am until 5pm on October 15 and Wychwood Park four days later, between midday and 8pm.

Following the consultation deadline on November 7, the feedback will help bring forward a new piece of legislation expected to be laid out in Parliament by the end of next year.

Colette Carroll, HS2 Ltd Phase 2a development director, said: “HS2 is a major new infrastructure project that will help rebalance the economy and encourage growth across the country. Today’s announcement is another step forward in making it a reality.

“We understand the concerns of local communities that are impacted by this new railway line. These consultations are aimed at capturing the views of people directly affected by HS2.

“I encourage as many people as possible to take part in these consultations.”

Transport Minister Andrew Jones said: “We are committed to delivering the infrastructure needed for our economy to grow.

“HS2 is a transformative scheme that will be the new backbone of the national rail network, bringing Britain closer together and providing benefits for people and businesses across the country.

“It is natural that those living close to the new line will have concerns and we are committed to do all possible to mitigate the impacts of the new railway.”
