NANTWICH under 15s were crowned Cheshire Cup champions after beating Alderley Edge by 13 runs in the final at Grappenhall.

Nantwich totalled 135 for 4, thanks to knocks from Ben Johnston, 53, and Dylan Reeves, 28, while Alderley replied with 122-5, led by Ed Fluck’s 51. Organiser Mike Tyerman said: “The standard of play was high and the game in Cheshire has a very bright future.”

Nantwich now visit the Lancashire champions in the national first round.

The club’s senior side had less luck on Saturday, when their Cheshire County ECB Premier Division game Alderley Edge was cut short due to rain.

The home side had posted 219 for 9, with Liam Livingstone enjoying a superb seven-wicket haul, while the Dabbers had reached 164 for 2 with 15 overs remaining when the rain arrived.

Ashley Shaw was on course for a century on 91 not out as both sides collected eight points.

Wistaston Village slipped to defeat by 101 runs at Stalybridge St Pauls in the Cheshire Cricket Alliance Division One.

St Pauls batted first and set a target of 220 for 9, with Wistaston’s Mike Kingdom taking 3 for 60, Dean Titus 2 for 19, Josh Allwood 2 for 29 and James Hogben 2 for 43.

In reply, Wistaston were bowled out for 119 with Ned Townsend’s 51 and Gareth Barnes’ 21 the only real resistance.

Haslington saw their TACS Partnership Division Three fixture at Wirral abandoned after reaching 299 in their 45 overs.

Jack Taylor and Jonny Phipps had both made 73, Rob Coombes enjoyed a knock of 39 and opener Tom Gledhill made 30. The game was abandoned 16 overs into Wirral’s innings.

Crewe Vagrants suffered a six-wicket defeat at Bignall End in the North Staffs and South Cheshire League Championship Division Three A.

Best with the bat for Crewe was Sam Carney, 34, while Shahid Mahboob took 3 for 42 in reply.
