GOALKEEPER Ben Garratt believes Crewe Alexandra are on the up as they target victory against Chesterfield this Saturday.

The 20-year-old has been in decent form during the Alex revival, keeping three clean sheets out in six games as the club look to save their season.

And Garratt knows three points against the mid-table Spireites this weekend could be enough to lift them out of the League One drop zone.

“The whole team is pleased we’ve got going,” explained Garratt. “There have been games when I haven’t been too busy lately and that’s credit to the lads.

“Confidence comes with good results and clean sheets so I’m feeling confident at the moment.

“We’ve given ourselves a great chance in the last few weeks and hopefully we can build on that with three points on Saturday.”

Garratt will have to keep Chesterfield's Irish hot-shot Eoin Doyle quiet after bagging 14 goals in just 16 outings so far this season.

Both Danny Haynes and Febian Brandy are likely to figure at Gresty Road after sitting out last weekend’s FA Cup stalemate against Sheffield United.

Canadian forward Marcus Haber’s international call-up has once again opened the door as boss Steve Davis weighs up his options.

“We knew Febian and Danny were not given permission to play in the FA Cup and it will be the same for the replay,” he explained.

“But they will be back for Chesterfield and they will be involved. If they start will remain to be seen, but it’s nice to have options again.

“Both have come out to play games because they are not at their own clubs for whatever reason. They have that hunger to show everyone what they can do and they will play some part on Saturday.”

Matt Tootle could also make the Alex squad after returning to training following an illness.

Midfielder Ollie Turton should shake off a tight hamstring, while on-loan Swansea City defender Alan Tate is also back in contention for Davis' men.

“Toots has lost some weight and isn’t 100 per cent so we will be cautious with him,” added Davis. “We’ll take things slowly and assess it.”

The Railwaymen will look to set up an FA Cup second round clash against Plymouth if they spring an upset at Bramhall Lane on Tuesday.

A reunion with ex-defender Kelvin Mellor could take place at Gresty Road on December 6.

“I’m glad it was a home draw if we get through but we’ve got a tough game first,” continued Davis. “The first thing I thought about was Kelvin having a grin on his face.

“It’s a good club, they’re having a decent season and they’ll want to try and get out of that division.

“They were in the Championship not so many years ago with good support because of where they are.”
