NANTWICH Town boss Danny Johnson has hit out at social media trolls and insists he has the backing of the club’s board.

The Dabbers drew 2-2 with Stamford in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League top flight on Saturday having taking a lead into the break thanks to an Aaron Burns brace.

Nantwich now sit two places and two points above the drop zone, but Johnson is confident he will see out a long-term project at the Weaver Stadium.

“I’ve read lots of stuff on social media reminding me of how bad of a manager I am,” he said.

“It’s quite funny and has made me laugh because these people are just trying to create mischief, have no real understanding for the game and have been enjoying our recent run.

“They have no idea what is happening at Nantwich Town Football Club but it makes me chuckle to myself and even more determined to achieve success, so I thank them for that.

“The chairman and the board have consistently told me that this is a long-term project that I am involved in and that I have nothing but their support.

“We still have a long, long way to go this season but the recent signs are promising and I think we are turning a corner.”

He added: “We have good belief in the changing room, we had a chat after the game about team spirit and I believe the lads are a much stronger group having been through the experience of the last six weeks.”

Dabbers’ Cheshire Senior Cup second round clash against Tranmere Rovers is now set for January 13, while the club’s visit to FC United has been pushed back until Sunday, January 18.
