NANTWICH had a mixed weekend in the Cheshire County League Premier Division, beating Timperley on Saturday before an away defeat to Chester Boughton Hall on Sunday.

In Saturday’s clash at Whitehouse Lane, Dabbers captain Ray Doyle invited Timperley to bat after winning the toss and Louis Cameron immediately set about the task of getting early wickets by having opener Edward Galley caught behind for one.

Fellow opener Danny Cooper rebuilt with an effort of 55 that was the stand-out in the visitors’ innings, but wickets fell at regular intervals as Cameron finished with 5-58 to leave Nantwich needed 198 to win the match.

There was panic when the hosts slipped to 44-2, but Steve Rimmer (68) and Ryan Brown (79) put together a superb partnership of 136 for the third wicket to take them to the brink of victory.

However, Brown’s dismissal sparked a mini-collapse and they were 193-5 when Rimmer eventually fell, but Doyle and Ben Johnstone guided them to a five-wicket win without any further alarm.

This meant they travelled to Chester Boughton Hall in high spirits, but they were bowled out for just 179 having won the toss as Robert Cook-Sievewright made the most meaningful contribution with 45.

The hosts reached their target with ease to secure an eight-wicket victory, thanks largely to a stunning unbeaten century from opener Oliver Law.

Nantwich are in T20 action at Congleton on Thursday evening before hosting Cheadle on Saturday afternoon.

AUDLEM stayed second in the Cheshire Cricket Alliance First Division after a 150-run thrashing of Glazebury, with Qhama Matthews’ unbeaten 70 helping them to 211-6 from their 45 overs before Callum McIlveen (4-21) and Neil Humphries (3-4) combined to blast Glazebury out for just 62 in reply.

Wistaton were also successful as they edged past Winsford by two wickets, with George Barlow’s 55 helping them reach a target of 160 to win the game after four wickets each from James Hogben and Mike Kingdom restricted Winsford to 159 all out.

The club’s women’s team progressed to the next round of the Cheshire Women’s League Knockout Cup with an eight-wicket win over Chester Boughton Hall.

They now face a quarter-final tie against Ashton-on-Mersey.
