TEAM GB’s men’s hockey team – featuring Nantwich’s Will Weir – contested their opening match in Rio against Belgium.
However they failed to get off to a winning start as Belgium ran out 4-1 winners – Nick Catlin with Team GB’s only goal.
They next face New Zealand in the early hours of Monday morning British time and head coach Bobby Crutchley conceded they had been caught off the pace.
“We were way off it in so many areas and it’s incredibly disappointing,” he said.
“We’ll reflect on it, we have to turn around quickly and fix the performance very fast.
“We won’t wallow in this too long as we have a chance to put it right and we’ll do our utmost to do that.”
